In today's blog post, we'll be diving into the world of gravy. Making and sharing our go-to turkey gravy recipe for Thanksgiving. Whether you're a seasoned cook or just starting out in the kitchen, this recipe is sure to impress your family and friends.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup turkey broth (homemade or store-bought)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Once the butter is melted, add in the flour and whisk until well combined.
Let this roux cook for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
Slowly pour in the turkey broth while continuing to whisk the mixture.
Add in the salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Reduce the heat to low and let the gravy simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
*if cooking at the same time as Turkey*
Once your turkey is done roasting, pour all the drippings from the pan into a measuring cup (or fat separator).
Skim off any excess fat and then add the remaining drippings to your gravy.
Stir well and let it simmer for a few more minutes until thick and smooth.
Serve hot over slices of roasted turkey and enjoy!
Tips for Success
If you don't have turkey broth, you can use chicken or vegetable broth instead.
For a richer flavor, you can also add in some poultry seasoning or fresh herbs like thyme and rosemary.
Make sure to constantly whisk the roux to prevent lumps from forming.
If you want a thicker gravy, use more flour. Just remember to cook it for an extra minute or two to avoid any raw flour taste.
Turkey gravy for Thanksgiving is a staple in many households. It's the perfect accompaniment to your perfectly roasted turkey and adds so much flavor to your Thanksgiving dinner. And the best part? Making homemade gravy is easier than you think!
