Pickling spice is one of those ingredients you can buy already put together in the store or you can make your own! If you're like me and like making everything from "scratch" head to your local supermarket and pick up the ingredients below! Pickling spice is just a bunch of herbs and spices mixed together to preserve and flavor foods. It can be used in brines or marinades for meat and also for pickling fruits, veggies or eggs. You can also just use it as a seasoning!

Ingredients:
makes about 2/3 cup - 1 cup
2 tbsp peppercorns
2 tbsp whole mustard
2 tbsp coriander seeds
2 tbsp dill seed
1 tbsp all spice berries
1 tbsp red pepper flakes
1 tbsp crushed bay leaves
Instructions:
Add all of your ingredients to a container and mix. You can grind them up a bit with a mortar and pestle if you'd like.
Store for up to a year in a tightly closed container in your cabinet.
Tips
You can also use the ground versions of each!
Make your own corned beef brine for the holidays or next time you cook up a brisket. I use this mix for my nitrate-free corned beef recipe on my website!
