Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes Recipe

Are you looking for the perfect side dish to pair with your Thanksgiving turkey? Look no further than these delicious Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes! Creamy, flavorful, and oh-so-comforting, these mashed potatoes are sure to be a hit at any holiday gathering or dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 5 lbs russet potatoes

  • 1 roasted head of garlic

  • salt, to taste

  • pepper, to taste

  • 2 sticks butter

  • 1.5 cups milk

Instructions:

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Wash and peel the potatoes, then cut them into smaller chunks. If you like the skin feel free to skip the peeling.

  3. Place the potatoes in a large pot of cold water and add a generous pinch of salt.

  4. Bring the water to a boil and let it cook for about 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

  5. While the potatoes are cooking, prepare your garlic by cutting off the top of a head of garlic to expose the cloves. Drizzle with olive oil and seasonings and wrap in foil.

  6. Place the garlic in the oven and let it roast for about 30 minutes.

  7. Once done, remove the garlic from the oven and let it cool before squeezing out the roasted cloves into a small bowl.

  8. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.

  9. Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the potatoes until they reach your desired consistency.

  10. Add in the roasted garlic cloves, milk, butter and continue to mash until fully incorporated.

  11. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  12. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes!

Tips:

  • For extra creaminess, add some more butter or milk to the mashed potatoes.

  • To make this recipe even easier, you can use pre-minced garlic instead of roasting a whole head of garlic. You can also omit the garlic altogether!

  • These mashed potatoes can be made the day before and reheated in the oven for a stress-free holiday meal prep. Just add a little extra milk to keep them from drying out.

Pairing Suggestions for Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes

1. Roasted Turkey: The traditional Thanksgiving favorite; our garlic mashed potatoes are a perfect side dish to a juicy, well-seasoned turkey.

2. Honey Glazed Ham: The sweetness from the honey pairs wonderfully with the savory garlic flavor in the mashed potatoes.

3. Vegetarian Nut Roast: For those preferring a meat-free option, a rich and hearty nut roast is a great match.

4. Beef or Mushroom Wellington: Whether it's a classic beef or a vegetarian-friendly mushroom, the combination of flaky pastry and rich gravy with our mashed potatoes is simply delicious.

5. Grilled Chicken or Tofu: Prefer something lighter? Seasoned grilled chicken or tofu can balance out the richness of the garlic mashed potatoes.

6. Chicken Marsala or Francese: The rich, creamy texture of garlic mashed potatoes wonderfully complements the tangy, wine-infused sauce of Chicken Marsala. On the other hand, the lemony brightness of Chicken Francese offers a delightful contrast to our savory mashed potatoes. Whether you're in the mood for something hearty or seeking a zestier option, both dishes make a fantastic pairing.
