I'm going to be honest, turkey is one of my favorite meals to have on Thanksgiving and quite honestly any day of the year. The only issue is sometimes it really lacks flavor and can easily become dry if you're not putting enough love into it. If you're looking for a fool proof way to make your turkey absolutely delicious and juicy this year, follow my recipe below :)
Ingredients:
feeds 5-6
6 lbs turkey (giblets removed)
2 tbsp olive oil
1 large apple of choice quartered
2 sweet onions quartered
4 carrots cut in half
4 stalks of celery cut in half
2 lemons quartered
1 head of garlic (head cut off)
4 sprigs of fresh thyme
4 sprigs of fresh rosemary
1/4 cup fresh parsley
1 stick or 1/2 cup of softened Garlic Herb Butter
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Garlic Powder to taste
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 325F.
Chop up your veggies and wash/pat dry your bird.
Add a drizzle of olive oil to the bottom of your pain and half of the carrots, celery, onions, lemons, apple, thyme, rosemary, and parsley.
Add your turkey on top of the veggies/herbs.
Drizzle the rest of your olive oil on the turkey and rub it into the skin and insides.
Season all around and inside the cavities of the turkey with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Don't forget to delicately lift up the skin to season underneath.
Massage the turkey inside, outside and under the skin with the softened garlic herb butter. Add a few pieces of the butter to the veggies/herbs underneath the turkey.
Stuff your turkey cavities with the rest of the carrots, celery, onions, lemons, apple, thyme, rosemary, parsley and the garlic head.
Place in the oven to cook for about 90 minutes or until the turkey reads 165F with a thermometer in multiple places. Make sure to baste/inject with the juices that gather at the bottom of the pan every 30 minutes or until cooked.
Remove from the oven and let sit for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Remove the veggies & herbs (if you want) from the pan. Either discard them or check the tips below on how you can make use of them!
When you slice the meat, remove the turkey from the pan and then add the slices back into the juices for some extra juiciness!
Tips:
Make sure the butter is softened so it is easy to massage into the turkey.
Save some of the juices/drippings to use for your Turkey Gravy
Save your garlic head to squeeze and add into your mashed potatoes (recipe dropping soon).
Blend the veggies and herbs then add it back to the pan and whisk it into the drippings/juice before you add the turkey back in.
